The Cold Valley

Driving from the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border through the villages, and finally over the ridge from Waterhouses and on to Oakamoor. There is a distinct drop in temperature, presumably as the land lays, a geological effect?

As we enter the Churnet Valley the temperature is now quite cold, coldness also emirates from the lack of community spirit. So much self interest and clique. As one nearby neighbour put it, if you don’t go to one of NJ’s soirées or the pub then you won’t know anything, or anybody.

An example of this selfish community

On Saturday 10 October 2020, a lady, now in her seventies decided to walk her dogs, there was a brief pause in the wet weather and the sun was out.

Unfortunately just a few minutes into the walk in the garden, the lady slipped on wet steps. She fell awkwardly and was unable to move. She could not reach her mobile phone because of how she had fallen, her legs being twisted around each other. She was in pain, shock, fear and alone. Eventually she managed to get to her mobile, it was now raining heavily, being soaked to skin added to her fears.

Despite having the mobile, she realised that there was no one to call locally who could help, what a despicable situation to be in, her only comfort was her Border Collie, he stayed with her throughout the ordeal, both of them soaking wet.

If isolation is my punishment for protecting the locality from inappropriate development, then so be it, the two faced people of Oakamoor and in particular 'some' at Moorcourt, they need to take a long hard look at themselves.

To quote from the famous and most underrated songwriter Gerry Rafferty ......................

"So many people, but it's got no soul"

Comments are more than welcome.............. if you've got the balls
